If you’ve ever watched your children head off to university, you’ll understand the mix of pride, hope, and that quiet longing for the day they return — more confident, more capable, and ready to make a meaningful impact. That’s exactly how I felt when Barrie, Lawrence, and Ralston walked back through the doors at Marsim Auto Group!
This dealership has never been just a business — it’s a family. And like any family, sometimes people take different paths. They leave for their own reasons — to grow, to explore new challenges, or simply because they need a change. We respect those journeys. But when they return, especially when it’s unexpected, it feels like everything clicks back into place. Like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The family feels whole again — stronger and better than ever.
Barrie Waterfield, our Director of Parts and Accessories, is a true icon in the industry. With 45 years in the automotive parts business — 37 of those with Hyundai — Barrie has been instrumental in shaping operations and setting standards. We had the privilege of working with him at the very first dealership we purchased over 25 years ago, and even then, his leadership and expertise stood out. Today, we’re proud to have him back at the helm, now overseeing the parts departments at both Toronto Hyundai and Genesis Yorkdale. A nine-time recipient of Hyundai’s President’s Inner Circle Award, Barrie is recognized nationally — but within our walls, he’s simply the heart of our team. His return is more than a reunion; it’s a continuation of the legacy he helped create.
Lawrence began his journey with us in 2009, under the mentorship of my husband, Benny. Watching him grow from Sales Consultant to Financial Services Manager to General Sales Manager to Director of Sales was one of the most rewarding chapters in our dealership’s history. Many changes were felt during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he eventually continued his career with a well-known luxury brand. I’ll admit, his return was unexpected — but it quickly became clear just how right it felt to have him back. Sometimes it takes time and distance to fully recognize the value someone brings. Lawrence has come back with a renewed sense of purpose, broader perspective, and the kind of leadership that is already moving our team forward in meaningful ways. I am so very thrilled to have him back and hope he is with us for many more years to come!
Ralston, who also joined us in 2009, worked his way through sales, service, and warranty roles, earning his place as a trusted and versatile team member. After gaining valuable experience outside the organization, he’s back — now stepping into a key leadership role overseeing the service departments at both Toronto Hyundai and Genesis Yorkdale. His journey has come full circle, and we couldn’t be more confident in the direction he’ll take us.
Welcoming Barrie, Lawrence, and Ralston back feels like reuniting a family. There’s a new rhythm, a deeper sense of purpose, and a shared commitment to excellence — for our customers, our colleagues, and our future.
